My First Art Journal Pages - One Sip At A Time

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well.

Today I am here to share my first art journal pages.

For that last couple of months I have been watching Vicky Papaioannou's You Tube Channel and seeing the way she creates in an art journal.

I really wanted to give it a try, so the first thing I did was to find a notebook that was around the house that has never been used. I used a 5 1'2" by 8" lined notebook that had quite thin pages so I glued four pages together and then covered it in white gesso before I started on my background.

Because I really didn't have a theme or focal point in mind I ended up redoing the background at least three times. The final background was created using some teal and brown acrylic paint which i painted over with some watered down white acrylic paint because the background was too vibrant and not the look I wanted.

For some texture, I used some light modelling paste and the Nesting Hexagons stencil from Neat and Tangled, which was covered with the paint mentioned above. Then to bring of the dimension, I added a light rubbing of Vintage Silk wax.
Using some Ground Expresso distress ink and the Tim Holtz' Splatters stencil, I created the coffee rings.

For the coffee cups, I used two different dies from MFT Stamps, the Cool Cup and the Coffee Cup Die. The saying was taken from the Stay Cool stamp set also from MFT Stamps, which I stamped using Hero Arts' Cup O'Joe ink. Like Vicki, I decided to highlight a portion of the phrase by using the High-Rise Alpha Uppercase dies from MFT Stamps and cut out the word sip several times in red card stock.

To finish the two pages, I inked up the edges with Vintage Photo and Black Soot Distress Inks and added some white highlights to the word sip and the hearts on the coffee cups.

This was a lot of fun, at times stressful but hopefully I will give it another go soon.

Thank you so much for taking the time to drop by.

I hope you have a great week, Kathy
